The Rising Cost of College

By Caitlin Ostroff

Since the 1970s, the cost of college has been rising rapidly across the country, according to the College Board While Florida's tuition increases have been relatively low compared with the national average, recent budget cuts to Florida's higher education could result in increased tuition in the future, according to the Research Institute on Social and Economic Policy.

So what colleges can you afford? Take the quiz and find out. And after that, take a look at the charts to see how much the cost is likely to increase by the time you finish college and what is the average debt of those schools?

Methodology

Data on cost of attendance for public and private Florida 4-year universities is based on information from the State University System of Florida for the 2016-2017 academic year. Only private schools with an attendance of 10,000 or greater were used as options. The average debt of each school comes from The Institute for College Access and Success. The data is based on the average student debt in 2015.
